“At an early age, by modern standards, I was able to make my independent way to St John’s Primary School in Cauldwell Hall Road. The trolley bus took me only as far as the Woodbridge Road end of Sidegate Lane, but that was probably over half way. The cost of the ride was 1d.
We know that the Gascoyne survey map omits details of planting, such as the many fruit trees and bushes planted in the beds and on the walls surrounding the bowling green, shown above in Evelyn own annotated sketch plan of 1683 4. The Gascoyne map mayalso have omitted other details for which we don have any documentation,so I think it wise to avoid drawing too firm conclusions, concerning how much Evelyn was either following or helping to form new garden fashions, based just on theevidence of this map. Even so, it gives us a tantalizing peek into SayesCourt garden in its later form, just a couple of years before Evelyn and his wifeMary packed up and moved to Wotton, the Evelyns family home in Surrey he carried on gardening!.
Throughout the rest of May, none of us saw any action in or near the nest hole. Fooled again, I thought. Maybe the male pileated I saw excavating a hole in a live, leaning chestnut oak tree near our deer exclosure, back on April 24, was the same male and that was an active pileated nest.

I was really impressed by our meal at Aureole, not only because it was just that good, but also because it somewhat unassuming. It not a place I heard talked about much, yet it right in the heart of the theatre district (a place I live near, work near, and play near often). If you are looking for a pre theatre meal, I think that $55 prix fixe is a great deal!.
Butterworms continue to be the top bait over fathead minnows and red worms. Lakes have been tough with the unstable weather, but good fish are being caught at night with 10 pound catfish and stripers being reported. The Lehigh River smallmouth and catfish are eating medium shiners and cut bait.
