When planning a party I like to think about the rhythm of the party and alternate between active and calm games, competitive and non competitive games and activities.
This saves frayed tempers and calms the competitive natures.
A craft activity, which isn't competitive, is always good to throw in. They won't necessarily be at it long but long enough to have a calming influence.
To keep the party flowing and to save any undue stress, I like to have a few extra games up my sleeve.
